Monterey City Council Member Ruth Vreeland has died in a car
crash in South Monterey County. Ruth was a longtime LandWatch
member, and was a dynamic and energetic voice for better land

LandWatch
and Common Ground Agree
LandWatch Monterey County and Common Ground Monterey County
have issued a Joint Statement on Conservation and Development
principles. Both organizations believe that, as growth occurs,
it is important to phase and locate that growth in a way that
conserves both important natural resource lands, and the commercially
productive farmlands that are at the basis of the agricultural
industry that sustains our local economy. The Joint Statement
calls on the Board of Supervisors to set a new direction in

Adopts Anti-Sprawl Resolution
The ìWhereasî clauses of this recently adopted
Resolution on Sprawl show that organized labor well understands
the detrimental effects of inefficient, unplanned growth. (posted

Patton
Receives Award As"Environmental Educator"
LandWatch Executive Director Gary Patton has been recognized
by the Ventana Chapter of the Sierra Club for his efforts in
environmental education. He will receive the Ventana Chapter
2001 Environmental Education Award on November 4th. |
Wild
Heritage Campaign Will Provide Wilderness Protection
LandWatch has endorsed an ambitious effort to provide permanent
protection for Californias remaining wilderness, including
over 50,000 acres in Monterey County. (posted 06/28/01)
