LandWatch, along with the Tides Foundation and California Healthy Communities Network, is sponsoring a public forum highlighting the cultural, economic and environmental benefits of maintaining a strong base of locally-owned business. These groups are working with the American Business Alliance (AMIBA), which has actively helped over 50 communities initiate Buy Local campaigns and respond to the market pressures exerted from big box retailers in those communities.
Jeff Milchen, the founder and president of AMIBA, will be in Northern California the week of November 2-6 holding public forums and meetings on surviving and competing with big box discounters in our current lack luster national and global economy. Milchen is a highly-sought speaker, nationally-published writer, and leading voice for community self-determination.
Join us for a provocative and practical presentation and discussion that will highlight the cultural, economic and environmental benefits provided by maintaining a strong base of locally-owned business and dangers that accompany dependence on outside corporations.
We’ll learn about a wide range of tools our community can use to support local entrepreneurs and successful examples used by dozens of cities and towns to help local independents thrive.
This event is free and open to the public
