LandWatch: No on Prop 98 and Yes on Prop 99

LandWatch Monterey County wants you to know our position regarding Proposition 98 and Proposition 99 on the June ballot. LandWatch, along with other environmental organizations and the League of California Cities are OPPOSING Proposition 98 and SUPPORTING Proposition 99.

Proposition 98 would be an environmental nightmare, and it would eliminate rent control and renter protections and paralyze local land use decisions. Proposition 99, The Homeowners Protection Act is a real eminent domain reform measure and it will prohibit the government from using eminent domain to take a home to transfer to a private developer.

Proposition 98 would be devastating to the environment and natural resource protection. If you would like to read more details on how Proposition 98 would impact planning and zoning, climate, coastal protection, habitat protection, forests, mitigation fees and open spaces, historic buildings and cultural sites, please click here:

Proposition 99, The Homeowners Protection Act, is supported by a broad coalition of homeowners, business, labor, cities, counties, and environmentalists who want straightforward eminent domain reform that gets right to the heart of the infamous Kelo decision.
