Spreckels Issues & Actions

The historic town of Spreckels is located near the Salinas River, in the middle of some of the most productive agricultural land in the world. This "island of serenity"is now facing major development pressures, including a proposal by D'Arrigo Brothers to build a twenty seven acre agricultural processing facility in the near vicinity, and a proposal by Tanimura & Antle to build 72 new and "non-historic" homes on prime farmland immediately adjacent to the Town. LandWatch is working closely with local residents and concerned persons from throughout Monterey County to protect both the historic qualities of Spreckels, and the agricultural land around the Town.
