SUBJECT: ITEM 10C – RESOLUTION NO. 2011

Dear Mayor Delgado and City Council Members:

LandWatch Monterey County reviewed and commented on both the draft and final environmental impact reports for the proposed Whispering Oaks Project. LandWatch opposes the proposed location for the MST facility due to severe impacts on biological resources and traffic. However, we do support the need for MST to consolidate its services and expand to a larger facility, and we have urged MST to explore alternative locations including the Marina Airport.

The Marina Airport would not only meet MST’s objectives, it is also an environmentally superior choice given that the site is already developed with existing infrastructure. LandWatch encourages the city council to adopt Resolution No. 2011, directing staff to initiate discussion and possible negotiations with MST related to possible relocation of future MST administration and transit maintenance facilities within the future light industrial business park at the Marina Municipal Airport.

Thank you for allowing LandWatch to comment on this resolution.

Sincerely,

Amy L. White
Executive Director
