LandWatch Monterey County Around the County Series (2 of 3): The Reuse of Fort Ord and Cleanup Efforts May 14, 2012

Every year LandWatch Monterey County hosts a speaker series on a land-use topic of particular interest. The 2012 Around the County series is on the reuse of the former Fort Ord military base. Fort Ord is 28,000 acres surrounded by the cities of Salinas, Marina, Seaside, and Del Ray Oaks. What happens to that land impacts the entire region. While LandWatch has worked on issues related to Fort Ord for some time, the topic became particularly relevant after the MST / Whispering Oaks project on the former fort was overturned on February 14th (read more at www.landwatch.org/pages/issuesactions/fortord.html) and because the Fort Ord Reuse Authority is set to expire in 2014.
