Sign Up Now For General Plan"Boot Camp"

We urge you to sign up now for the community training session that LandWatch Monterey County is sponsoring for persons who want to participate effectively in the Monterey County General Plan Update (GPU) process.

We call it General Plan "Boot Camp." Here's the time, date, and place:

The Monterey County Planning Commission has scheduled an evening public hearing on Monday, March 22nd, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the County Courthouse in Salinas. Written comments on the draft GPU will be accepted until March 26th. Comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) are due on April 2nd.

Now is the time to participate! Attend the LandWatch "Boot Camp" and find out how to participate most effectively.

This General Plan "Boot Camp" will be a concentrated (and fun) 31/2 hour training session that will help you participate effectively in the GPU process. It will cover:

• What is currently proposed in the Draft GPU, and how to make it better
  
  
• The Draft EIR on the General Plan Update, and how to comment on it
  
  
• How to speak out effectively for a better General Plan Update

The future of Monterey County is at stake! Attend the "Boot Camp" on Saturday March 20th, and then attend the Planning Commission hearing on Monday evening, March 22nd.

We need a General Plan Update that will:

• Protect our incomparable natural resources and prime agricultural lands
  
  
• Increase affordable housing opportunities for local residents
  
  
• Prevent more traffic gridlock and water overdraft

We can have that kind of a General Plan, but public participation is vital!
